Family’s renters insurance started day after apartment fire

FORT COLLINS – A married couple displaced by Tuesday’s Fort Collins apartment fire had signed up for renters insurance online just days before – but it didn’t start until the day after the fire.

“My kids have nothing, not even just a room to just sleep on the floor,” said Dinette Korgan, who is pregnant and expecting any day now.

“And that’s the worst thing ever, because we have no answers as to when we’ll be able to have a place to live,” she added.

The 3-alarm apartment fire Tuesday in Fort Collins damaged many units and sent at least 30 people from their homes.

“Confusion, where everything was just happening so fast, and the only thing you can think of is to get what’s important,” Korgan’s husband Jason Korgan said.

Fire officials say they’re still trying to figure out how the apartment fire started, but they say it does not appear suspicious.
